“Know your why”, a Soldier in my unit once said. What do you want to do? Do you know your significance, or your importance to your organization?  In order to have career progression, you must set goals. Today’s workplace is more competitive than ever. It’s great to have a job you love in an industry you want to work in. With that being said, you probably don’t want to remain in the same position for too long. In some cases, you may be forced to seek advancement to stay relevant in your field. An individual should take into consideration that, no matter the mass of his or her business, it makes good logic to devote time to increase and sustain a thoughtful and well organized business pathway. When thinking about career progression, we tend to think of how we can make progress to become better at our jobs. There are ways and means to get to where you want to be faster, but there has to be that mindset to accomplish those objectives you have in your thoughts or mind.Start off by not only doing good work, but having a great attitude. This is imperative because no matter just how much you think your effort is lower than expected you are your own instruction level. When you perform well, even if you go the extra mile to do something outside your job description, your tireless attitude and ethics will be remembered. A lot of persons assume a mentor-peer relationship has to be official. It does not. A person can have several mentors. Maybe you may cogitate having one for each of the two areas you are thinking about to transition into. If you are considering the option of collecting numerous viewpoints, it would be a great idea to seek a mentor inside your group and someone else from a different organization. These should not just be anyone, they should be cream of the crop whose view you consider worthwhile and whose judgement you consider to be of high standard. Nearly, if not all of the finest mentors to emulate have management expertise that encompass through the authority of inspiration. When pondering on career progression; you have to decide to be a manager or a leader at some pointing time in your career. Maxwell (1993) stated:A person may be “in control” because he has been appointed to a position. In that position, he may have authority. But real leadership is more than having authority; it is more than having the technical training and following the proper procedures. Real leadership is being the person others will gladly and confidently follow. A real leader knows the difference between being the boss and being a leader (p.5). Remember that a boss will drive his workers, but a leader will coach them to perform better. Try joining a professional mentoring group which are in many cities. Continue gaining motivation by placing yourself around successful people. Developing your skills is a great way to work toward career advancement. To be successful, you must master your craft by learning every part of your job. In this day and age you do not have to devote a lot of cash and even spend several hours on an official degree to attain a new set of goals or skills. There are various sites that offer free courses, such as Army Learning Management System and The Army E-Learning Program. While there are certifications that cover just about every profession, you do not need to get a formal license or certificate to acquire knowledge that you can apply for the job (Yeager, 2015). Promote yourself by taking initiative; become a go-getter. Administrators usually cannot find the time or have the desires to fight for you, therefore, if you have that type of a manager or boss, applaud yourself for that is an unusual case. Don’t waste time waiting for others to give you praise. Take the initiative and do more than what is expected of you. As an individual you can support your noble effort in a calm fashion, by simply checking in with your leader to evaluate your work in depth and converse on areas that you need to work on to get to the next level.         Collaboration is something that you ought to be doing constantly within and outside of your organization.  You never know when some connections with certain people may come into play. According to Yeager (2015) “Within your section, set up brief conversations with your peers in the functional areas or at the levels you’re interested in, including coworkers and senior leadership. Before you meet, develop some thoughtful or perceptive questions to ask”. Pay close attention to how they respond. It is very helpful to network externally while you have a job. Check with your friends and other connections online with people whose backgrounds intrigue and motivate you. Create a list of questions to ask each person with whom you’re communicating to. If both parties are unable to meet in person, setup a Skype call or meet in or send a quick email to explain what needs to be done etc. When time is of the essence, take advantage of any opportunity to network with others. Another opportunity to follow is certified and social events that pulls people together based on the career path that you are already on or the career path that interest you. Explore all the different opportunities you get to talk to someone that is not on the same level as you. Try doing this through the medium of technology this will help you to achieve significant, lifelong information. It might be a forthcoming recommendation for a job offer in the long run, if you actually connected with that individual. There are many different ways to get towards your career objective speedily. Sitting down and waiting for individuals praises and promotions should not be your choice. Establish your plan of what, when, where, why, and how you will achieve your goals. Take the essential steps that will help you accomplish your objectives quicker. This might even help you to realize new potentials or get better benefits as you travel along. And finally, always remember why you began in the first place.
