Karnataka state public expenditure on health care industry
is lower in Raichur when compared to other districts in Karnataka, India. One
of the best example is Rajiv Gandhi super-specialty hospital which got shut
down in 2012 when Government failed to release enough budget to renew the

Government is encouraging private healthcare expenditure by
providing various incentives. For deriving profits from operations and
maintaining a private hospital which is located anywhere in India which are
constructed and started operation in from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2020 have
100 % deduction. 6

Growing incomes

 

Most population is middle class and the proportion of low
income house hold groups has declined significantly. Raichur’s GDP is INR 52.12
billion which contributes 1.745% to the state GSDP in 2013. Raichur is known as
‘Rice Bowl’ of India with around 438,045 ha of land for paddy cultivation with
more than 100 rice milling industries. Raichur is heavily titled in agriculture,
it ranks first in the state in Mosambi (sweet lime) and cereals production with
49.58% of sown total area. Raichur district has 10 medium and large scale
industries and around 9777 small scale industries. Raichur prides the Karnataka
power corporation (KPC) thermal power station, which accounts for generating
48% of power supply of the Karnataka state. For creating new industries 6,285

The total population of the district according to 2011
census is about 1,928,812 (19.2 lakhs), which accounts for about 3.2 per cent
of the state’s population of which males are 964,511 and remaining 964,301 are

Health condition of people of Raichur

 

Raichur records the highest values for infant, child and
maternal mortality rates (IMR, CMR and MMR). In 2011-12, for every 1000 live
births, 71 infants died within one year of their birth; and 79 children died
before they completed five years and 225 female deaths per 100,000 live births
from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy. In the district 33% of
pregnant women suffer with anaemia and there is still a practice of house
delivery. Raichur district is known for child malnutrition and the percentage
of children born underweight is quite high at about 20 per cent and the
proportion of malnourished children is about 46 per cent for the district 9.

Number of registered deaths caused due to diseases is 11680 which accounts for
43 % of total deaths 8.

 

Technological
Environment

 

The availability of health personnel is still inadequate as
not even one doctor and not even one nurse is available per 1000 people in
Raichur 24. There is one bed for each 441 people in the district and one
ambulance for every 1,28,587 people, which are quite inadequate 24. Hence,
there is a shortage of institutions, personnel and other facilities to cater to
the health needs of people in the district.
