Initially, some would argue that cell phones shouldn’t be allowed in school. For example, some argue that cellphone use in school promotes bullying. “Administrators, though, have become alarmed by students’ increasing use of smartphones to bully each other during school hours, to engage in escalating disputes, and even to arrange fights that are then filmed and posted to social media” (Boccella 1). This demonstrates that not all students will use their cellphones for the right reasons. “In 2015, researchers at the University of Texas and Louisiana State University studied four English schools and determined that bans on cell phones raised exam scores 6 percent on average” (Boccella 2). This shows that cellphones are the biggest reason why some students may perform more poorly on exams, some student heavily procrastinate on social media. If cellphones are completely ban then students will focus more on their studies and perform better on their exams.  Cellphones are a part of culture now, many kids in today’s world are glue to it (Boccella 1-5).Furthermore, cellphones do serve a lot of purposes in high school nowadays. Joe Childs, a principal in Mitchell High School even said himself that cellphones are frequently used in class by the directions of the teacher. “And with the entire school district now implementing 1- to -1 technology, Childs said the use of cell phones enhances available resources” (Bertsch 2). The cellphones extends resources already available to students. “Despite the consistent usage in schools, Childs said he doesn’t even remember the last time he’s had an issue with a student using their cell phone when they aren’t supposed to. But if that were to happen, he said they’d take it away if it was deemed necessary” (Bertsch 2). Students seems to know when to use their cellphones and when not to use it (Bertsch 1-3).Ultimately, the banning of cell phone completely in school does more bad than good. Cell phones have more pros than cons. Thierry Karsenti a professor in the University of Montreal said himself that students, regardless of the rules will bring their cellphones into the classroom. Karsenti said “schools with more flexible policies got better results, he said, adding the best ones set firm boundaries that helped educate students on when it may or may not be appropriate to use their cells” (McQuigge 2). Students get more tempted to use their phones the harsher the rules are and those rules are completely fruitless as majority of students will break those rules to bring their cellphones. “They were becoming themselves more responsible in those schools where cells were allowed with specific rules because schools help them become responsible, Karsenti said in a telephone interview. Otherwise who’s going to help them become more responsible” (McQuigge 2). School is amazing at educating students at academics, not only that but also educating them how to use their cellphones. Some schools allow students to have their cellphones face down on the desk. That’s a perfect way for teachers to tap into technology for the lecture their giving while preventing students from getting distracted by the lecture. Schools have all the power to basically manipulate students to use the phone for the right reasons and making sure they don’t get distracted by it (McQuigge 1-5).Essentially, cells phones should be allowed in school as it has many pros and very few cons. The cellphone is amazing at being convenient with students getting research papers done on their phones, also with many students having the advantage of doing assignments anytime they have time to kill. Within minutes students can get assignments done, with the cellphone being a portable laptop that you can use anytime. As more schools are being more flexible with the rules for cell phones and with teachers using technology to teach nowadays. Cellphones one day will become a part of education and a tool for schools.
