Evidently, football is considered primarily as an
endurance based sport. Throughout the game players run back and forth on or off
the ball to create or shut down spaces. This requires plenty of physical training
to be able to perform at the maximum level. Hence, players need to focus on
improving the five fitness components that are flexibility, muscle strength,
muscle endurance, body composition and cardio respiratory fitness. Football is
a ninety-minute sport which means the energy that the body requires to perform
this sport is supplied aerobically. Therefore, players need to have excellent
cardio respiratory fitness.
